Message from the Director

D.A.V. Educational and Welfare Society was established with the aim of supporting underprivileged and economically weaker sections of society, enabling individuals to become self-reliant. Over the years, the society has been actively engaged in community welfare activities such as vocational training, educational initiatives and awareness programmes, with special emphasis on youth, women and senior citizens.

The journey began in the resettlement colony of Sultanpuri, where a large section of the urban underprivileged population resides. Today, the society has expanded its reach to multiple centres including Narela, Kirari and Kirti Nagar, continuously working towards the upliftment of communities.

The society conducts various vocational programmes such as Cutting, Tailoring and Embroidery, Beauty Culture and Mehendi, and Computer Training, especially aimed at empowering women. In addition, initiatives like Jewellery Making, Recreation Centres for senior citizens, Immunization programmes for women and children, and DOTS centres are actively running at Sultanpuri.

Regular programmes at the Sultanpuri centre include tuition classes for students (6th to 9th standard), and vocational training in Electrician work, Mobile Repairing, Plumbing and Jute Bag Making. The society is also deeply involved in health-related initiatives, including running a DOTS centre and organizing immunization programmes for children.

At Kirari Village, OPD services for elderly people are conducted every Monday, along with general OPD services from Monday to Saturday. At Narela, a Target Intervention Centre is working towards spreading awareness about HIV/AIDS among labour communities. Similarly, at Kirti Nagar, vocational training in jewellery making and jute bag making is being conducted.

The society also organizes various awareness programmes in collaboration with government departments, including Self-Defence Training for women, Consumer Awareness, Road Safety and Crime Against Women campaigns. With the support of Delhi State AIDS Control Society (DSACS), HIV/AIDS awareness programmes have been conducted in schools and residential colonies across North-West Delhi.

To further support emergency needs, the society operates a 24/7 ambulance service provided by Dropti Devi Charitable Trust, Ashok Vihar, New Delhi. The ambulance remains available throughout the year for emergency and needy cases. The society also regularly conducts campaigns such as “Save the Girl Child” and Environmental Awareness programmes.

The organization carries out its welfare activities in collaboration with various government departments including Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (Delhi Govt.), Social Welfare Department (Delhi Govt.), Directorate of Health Services (Delhi Govt.), Municipal Corporation North Delhi (Delhi Govt.), Municipal Corporation Gurgaon (Haryana Govt.), Mission Convergence (Delhi Govt.), Delhi State AIDS Control Society (Delhi Govt.), Directorate of Technical Education (Delhi Govt.), NYKS Ministry of Youth Affairs (Govt. of India), Directorate of Education (Govt. of NCT of Delhi) and Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Integrated Rural Energy Planning and Development.

In addition, several corporate organizations and trusts such as Tata Power DDL, Reliance Power, Rotary Club Gurgaon and Rohini, Dropti Devi Charitable Trust and Smridhi Sansthan, Jaipur have joined hands with the society to strengthen its welfare initiatives.

DAV Educational and Welfare Society continues to move forward with a strong vision to empower the urban poor and make them self-reliant. The society expresses heartfelt gratitude to all organizations and individuals who have directly or indirectly supported its mission and contributed towards achieving its objectives.
